CAS

CAS is an experiential learning programme that is a graduating requirement at BIS. Most of the information you need can be found in the CAS Handbook below, as well as required resources and forms.

CAS Managebac – BIS Managebac Site

This year (2010-2011) we will be using Managebac to administer CAS.  All CAS students will need to be familiar with this online program that will make the organisation of CAS paperwork much easier.  Download the below Managebac student guide.  Note that although we may be using Managebac for other areas at school, for now you can just concentrate on the CAS aspects of this program.  See Mr Muir if you have not yet received your login details for Managebac.

Reflections

Writing true CAS reflections (those that provide the reader with an insight into how participation in CAS is influencing your thoughts) does not come naturally to many.  Often students provide a narrative rather than a reflection.  Please make sure you carefully read the CAS Handbook section on making reflections.  In addition, doing an internet search on reflecting may help your ability to reflect.  Meanwhile this document contains some stem questions that may assist you when writing reflections.

CAS Portfolio

At various stages during your CAS Programme, and during the month of December in your graduating year, you will be required to present your CAS Portfolio.  As outlined in your CAS Handbook, your CAS Portfolio is documentation of your CAS experience.  It is a collection of your reflections and other material that provides evidence of your achievement of the eight CAS learning outcomes. You can use Managebac as your CAS Portlio, but you will need to collate your CAS documentation so that you can present your CAS Portfolio when required.

Learning Outcomes

The Learning Outcome “Considered the ethical implications of their actions”  causes some confusion for CAS students.  Here is a document that may help you in understanding this outcome so that you will be able to show evidence in achieving it.

GRADE 11 CAS WEEK

This year the Grade 11 camp will be an orientation activity at the start of the school year.  During the Week Without Walls in June, Grade 11 students will be participating in ‘CAS Week’.  In small groups students will choose their own destination and activities that they will conduct, plan the week, make their own bookings and then travel unsupervised by a teacher.  The activities MUST have be CAS related, including a mandatory service element, and are to run for a minimum of three days excluding travel.  You can choose anywhere in Indonesia, and with enough planning, you could travel anywhere in the world!
